Family & Children's Programs

   Obesity has overcome the United States. Childhood Obesity is seen more so now than 10 years ago.  The CDC reported in 2004 childhood obesity rates were up 8-12% from the 80’s. What has changed? Well as technology stepped up, the only steps many children take are to the couch. Recently many School System have implemented healthier breakfast and lunch menu choices. This is the age where children need to learn the tools to have to live the healthiest life they can.

 

 

 

The Program

“Kids on the Go” Fitness & Nutrition Program is designed to promote healthy lifestyle changes that the children will retain as they grow. The children are taught the following:

  • basic food groups
  • purpose & importance of different vitamins
  • correct breathing exercises
  • different muscle groups
  • healthy fitness habits (stretching/warming up)
  • importance of healthy relations between foods
  • different types of exercise (sports, dance, aerobics, etc)

 

How it works

   This eight week program is designed to build healthy fitness and nutrition habits by a Certified Personal Fitness Trainer. The sessions are 60 minutes long, once a week. The sessions are limited to 20 participants. The children will do an initial assessment to gauge their knowledge and current habits. At the end of the session a post assessment is given. During each session the children will:

  • Greet and Share- Introduce themselves to the group. The children are allowed to share something they did to make an extra effort to eat healthy or to exercise. We also share healthy snack ideas.
  • What do you know Trivia- The children are split into two teams and while working together to answer various questions on topics ranging from food groups to stretches to promote team work. A review of the previous session questions is given to test the children’s knowledge.
  • Physical Activity- Each session the children must participate in a group exercise activity which may include cardio kickboxing, boot camp aerobics, hip hop dance aerobics, volleyball etc. depending on the available space and materials of the location. The children are given free time to do an individual activity such as basketball and volleyball if time permits. They are just encouraged to “keep it moving”.
  • Cool down & Stretch- The children are taught new stretches and breathing exercises weekly. We share an encouraging message for the week and depart.





Reward Program

The children are provided journals to record any exercise and a healthy food choice they made to share with the group in our weekly sessions. The children receive points to be tallied up at the end of the program where the healthiest boy and girl are rewarded at the end of the program. All children receive a certificate of completion at our final session, a party! All children are asked to bring in a healthy snack to share. (More details at a later date.)

I expect the children to retain a minimum of 60% of the information given. This is information that needs to stick with them throughout their years.

This 3 hour seminar that educates of the importance of building healthy relationships with the food that we eat and the importance of routine physical activity. The children are taught through trivia and activities. They are given a quiz to test their knowledge. They have the chance to win prizes through answering the correct answers. Some other topics include:

  •  Basic food groups/ Food Pyramid
  • Nutrition Labels/ Breakdown
  • Muscles & Bones
  • Healthy fitness habits
  • Different types of exercise

There will also be a:

  • Healthy snack demonstration
  • Physical Activity

Fitness & Nutrition Seminar 

 

This 2 hour seminar educates the importance of raising successful, healthy families. Tools are provided to assist even today's most active family get in good nutrition and fitness in they're everyday lifestyles.  Some other topics include:

  • Basic food groups/ Food Pyramid
  • Nutrition Labels/ Breakdown
  • Healthy Fitness Habits
  • Different types of family oriented exercise.
  • Meal planning/ Getting in Fruits & Veggies

There is also be a healthy food demonstration.
